Thyroid Imbalances
The thyroid regulates metabolism and energy levels, so whether underactive or overactive, imbalances can contribute to fatigue. Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) and hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) both lead to energy issues but in different ways.
If you feel like you’ve tried everything and nothing’s worked, chances are you haven’t addressed the right root cause yet. Think of it like a car—you wouldn’t fix a dead battery by topping up the fuel. The same logic applies to your body: if something’s not working, there’s a physiological reason why.
Identifying and addressing those underlying factors is the crucial first step. And that’s exactly what I help my patients do—through 1:1 sessions, functional testing and my Energy Reset Program—so they can stop guessing and start truly recovering their energy. Join us!
Read on to learn how thyroid issues cause fatigue, and what you can do about it.
What’s Going On in the Body?
Hypothyroidism: An underactive thyroid slows metabolism, causing tiredness, brain fog, weight gain, muscle weakness, and disrupted sleep. It also increases cortisol, worsening fatigue.
Hyperthyroidism: An overactive thyroid speeds up metabolism, leading to exhaustion from constant overstimulation. Symptoms like anxiety, irritability, and rapid heart rate can also contribute to fatigue, despite feeling wired.
What You Can Do About It:
Test Thyroid Function: “normal” TSH doesn’t rule out thyroid issues. A full thyroid panel includes TSH, free T3, free T4, RT3 and antibodies is required to fully evaluate thyroid function.
Support Nutrition: Ensure you're getting the right amount of iodine, selenium, zinc, vitamin A and iron to support thyroid function.
Join FIRED UP Energy Reset Program, where we uncover your root causes of fatigue so you can get your energy back for good.
Manage Stress: Since cortisol interferes with thyroid hormones, lowering stress via breathing exercises or improving vagal tone can improve thyroid function.
Consider Supplements: Ashwagandha, vitamin D, and tyrosine may help improve thyroid function and energy - but always check with your health practitioner to be sure these are safe for you before taking any supplements.
