What’s Going On in the Body?
Short-term stress is normal, its the prolonged stress and continued increase in hormones like cortisol and adrenaline that interferes with energy production. This flood of stress hormones causes inflammation in the brain, weakens vagal tone, (the body's ability to calm itself down, among other benefits), and reduces the production of "feel-good" chemicals like serotonin and dopamine, leading to mood swings and more fatigue. Over time, the HPA axis becomes dysregulated, leading to insufficient hormone production, low energy, difficulty waking up, and trouble managing stress.
