Gut Dysbiosis
Digestive discomfort, bloating, trouble losing weight and skin issues are all signs of gut dysbiosis. This is when the balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut is disrupted—and it can profoundly impact your energy levels. Other symptoms may include irregular bowel movements (constipation or diarrhea), food sensitivities, joint pain, and brain fog.
If you feel like you’ve tried everything and nothing’s worked, chances are you haven’t addressed the right root cause yet. Think of it like a car—you wouldn’t fix a dead battery by topping up the fuel. The same logic applies to your body: if something’s not working, there’s a physiological reason why.
Identifying and addressing those underlying factors is the crucial first step. And that’s exactly what I help my patients do—through 1:1 sessions, functional testing and my Energy Reset Program—so they can stop guessing and start truly recovering their energy. Join us!
Read on to learn how dysbiosis can cause fatigue, and what you can do about it.
What’s Going On in the Body?
Gut dysbiosis is an imbalance in gut bacteria where harmful microbes outgrow beneficial ones. This disrupts digestion and nutrient absorption, particularly proteins, B vitamins, magnesium, and iron, which are important for energy. These gut issues can lead to amino acid deficiencies, impacting muscle repair and energy. Dysbiosis also triggers gut inflammation, causing leaky gut, which allows toxins into the bloodstream, further stressing the immune system causing “food allergies”. This combination of poor nutrient absorption, inflammation, and immune activation contributes to fatigue.
What You Can Do About It:
Work with a practitioner to restore your gastrointestinal tract and restore your microbiome
Test!: Metagenomic stool tests are the gold standard for assessing microbiome health, identifying pathogens, infections, viruses, and digestive markers. Additionally, the SIBO breath test identifies Small (and Large) Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, a common cause of fatigue.
Improve digestion: Start by meal spacing and avoiding liquids with food (liquids dilute the digestive secretions in the gut)
Reduce inflammation: Minimize intake of NSAIDS, alcohol and inflammatory foods like sugar, refined flour products and A1 dairy.
