Epstein-Barr Virus
Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), also known as mono or glandular fever, is a common virus that can lead to fatigue if it becomes reactivated later in life, triggering ongoing symptoms like persistent exhaustion, muscle aches, sore throat, swollen glands/lymph nodes, and brain fog. This reactivation can disrupt the immune system and contribute to chronic fatigue if not properly addressed.
If you feel like you’ve tried everything and nothing’s worked, chances are you haven’t addressed the right root cause yet. Think of it like a car—you wouldn’t fix a dead battery by topping up the fuel. The same logic applies to your body: if something’s not working, there’s a physiological reason why.
Identifying and addressing those underlying factors is the crucial first step. And that’s exactly what I help my patients do—through 1:1 sessions, functional testing and my Energy Reset Program—so they can stop guessing and start truly recovering their energy. Join us!
Read on to learn how EBV can cause fatigue, and what you can do about it.
What’s Going On in the Body?
The virus infects B cells in the immune system, which can lead to an overactive immune response and disrupted energy production. In some cases, EBV can remain dormant and reactivate during periods of stress, further compromising the immune system and lead to a phenomenon known as the Cell Danger Response. This response causes the cell to forego energy production in order to protect itself against the virus. This cycle of immune activation and mitochondrial dysfunction is a key driver of the persistent fatigue and energy depletion and the reason it is commonly associated with ME/CFS.
What You Can Do About It:
Join FIRED UP Energy Reset Program, where we uncover your root causes of fatigue so you can get your energy back for good.
Fight the virus: Support immune function and use antiviral herbs (if safe for you) at the first sign of a flare (reactivation).
Manage stress levels: Incorporate relaxation techniques like meditation, aromatherapy, or deep breathing to lower cortisol before bed.
Heal your nervous system: Join either the Vagus Nerve Revival Program or the Neural “rewiring” Program to overcome chronic health issues of all kinds
Testing Options: EBV Early Antigen (EA), EBV Viral Capsid Antigen (VCA) IgM and IgG, and EBV Nuclear Antigen (EBNA) IgG.
Identify your co-factors: EBV is rarely the only cause of chronic fatigue. Identify other imbalances or infections that are making you vulnerable to reactivation in order to fully heal. Mold, Lyme and gut pathogens should be ruled out.
