Nutrient Imbalances
Nutrient imbalances are a common but often overlooked cause of fatigue. Even with a healthy diet, factors like poor absorption, chronic stress, gut issues, or long-term medication use can leave your body depleted of key vitamins and minerals needed for energy production. Identifying and correcting these imbalances is a powerful step toward restoring your energy.
If you feel like you’ve tried everything and nothing’s worked, chances are you haven’t addressed the right root cause yet. Think of it like a car—you wouldn’t fix a dead battery by topping up the fuel. The same logic applies to your body: if something’s not working, there’s a physiological reason why.
Identifying and addressing those underlying factors is the crucial first step. And that’s exactly what I help my patients do—through 1:1 sessions, functional testing and my Energy Reset Program—so they can stop guessing and start truly recovering their energy. Join us!
Read on to learn how nutrient imbalances cause fatigue, and what you can do about it.
What’s Going On in the Body?
Nutrients act as co-factors in energy metabolism. B vitamins—especially B12 and folate—support mitochondrial function, red blood cell production, and nervous system health. Magnesium is essential for ATP (cellular energy), while fatty acids and amino acids help regulate neurotransmitters, mood, and brain function. Deficiencies can lead to fatigue, brain fog, low mood, and poor stress resilience.
Foods like leafy greens, legumes, eggs, meat, fish, nuts, and seeds are rich in these nutrients, but imbalances still happen—often due to poor absorption in the gut, stress, or medications (especially PPIs, antacids and metformin).
Low B12 is especially common in those with gut issues, low stomach acid, vegan diets, or autoimmune conditions. Identifying these imbalances through testing is key to restoring energy.
What You Can Do About It:
Test, don’t guess: Identify specific deficiencies before supplementing and if you have digestive symptoms, consider Metagenomic Stool Testing
Eat nutrient-dense foods: Include high-quality proteins, leafy greens, and healthy fats.
Optimize digestion: Poor absorption can contribute to deficiencies, so gut health should be assessed.
Testing Options: Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis , DNA testing and Metagenomic Stool Testing
